Ross Barasch and Casey McMakin each posted two victories as for the second time in less than two weeks, UC Davis defeated Sonoma State, 7-2, in a men's tennis match Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Aggies improve to 5-4 on the season while the Seawolves fall to 1-5.
UC Davis took a 2-1 lead following doubles play as the Aggie No.1 duo of Kyle Trinosky and Barasch defeated Patrick Nagle and Andrew Laing, 9-7 while Casey and Kyle McMakin posted an 8-6 win over Thomas Morton and Ronnie Tuttle, at No.3. The Seawolves picked up a win at No.2 when Matt Parker and Phil Taylor defeated Bastian Bartels and Michael Chin, 8-2.
In singles play, Sonoma's Nagle won a first-set tiebreaker over Michael Chin then held on for the 7-6, 6-3 win at the top singles spot. After that, it was all Aggies. Jayce Fitch came away with a 6-3, 7-6 win at No.2 over Morton while Robert Wong won her second straight match, a 7-5, 6-1 win over Laing at No.3.
Barasch won his team-leading seventh singles match this spring with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Taylor at No.4 as Bartels had little trouble with Parker at No.5, winning 6-0, 6-2. McMakin defeated Tuttle at No.6, 6-3, 6-2, for the final victory.
The Aggies won their fourth match in the last five outings, beginning with Sonoma back on February 8, and will next be in action on Saturday when they host Nevada at Hickey Courts. Matchtime is set for 1 p.m.
