Pacific Too Strong For Aggie Men, Win 6-1

DAVIS, Calif. - The University of the Pacific captured the first five singles matches in straight sets en route to a 6-1 victory over UC Davis in a men's tennis match Saturday afternoon at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.

With the loss the Aggies fall to 1-8 on the season while the Tigers improve to 3-3.

The day began with doubles and the Tigers taking the top two matches for the opening points. Arnar Sigurdsson and Vladimir Zdravkovic defeated Michael Chin and Justin Garcia, 8-5, at No.1 while Jorgen Vestli and Niclas Otte defeated Bastian Bartels and Jayce Fitch, 8-2, at No.2. The Aggies did come away with a win at No.3 when Casey McMakin and Jordan Combs defeated Robert Price and Garrett Wyatt, 9-7.

In singles play, the Tigers clinched the match by taking the first five matches, all in straight sets. The Aggies got on the board at No.6 singles when Bartels won two close sets to defeat Stephen Conching, 6-4, 6-4, at No.6.

Pacific had wins at No.1 when Sigurdsson defeated Fitch, 6-2, 6-2, and at No.2 as Vestli blanked Chin, 6-0, 6-0. Zdravkovic earned another win at No.3 as he defeated Combs, 6-1, 6-1 while Otte defeated Daniel Elefant, 6-2, 6-4 at No.4. Austin Kakar gather the other Pacific point with a 7-5, 6-1 win over McMakin at No.5.

UC Davis is next in action on Saturday when it hosts Swarthmore at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. Matchtime is set for 1 p.m.
