SACRAMENTO, Calif. -
The Sacramento State men's tennis team rallied from an 0-1 deficit after doubles play to defeat UC Davis, 5-2, Sunday evening at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
With the loss the Aggies even their record at 5-5 while the Hornets improve to 3-3.
UC Davis opened the afternoon by taking two of the three doubles matches to win the point. Bastian Bartels and Michael Chin picked up an 8-4 win over Peter Farkas and Ramon Perez at No.2 while brothers Casey and Kyle McMakin clinched the doubles point with an 8-3 win over Warwick Foy and Will McAlister at No.3. At the No. 1 doubles, Nick Sheehan and Joakim Rydberg picked up the only doubles win for the Hornets as they defeated Kyle Trinosky and Ross Barasch, 8-1.
In singles play, Sheehan won his first match of the year, defeating Jayce Fitch, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. At No.2, Rydberg won his second match of the day, defeating Chin, 6-0, 6-1. Hornet Matt Jones won a first-set tiebreaker before defeating Robert Wong at No.3 , 7-6, 6-2.
Junior Ross Barasch continued his impressive play this spring by posting the Aggies only singles win, a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Ramon Perez at No.4. Farkas had little trouble in defeating Bartels, winning 6-1, 6-0, while Foy defeated Casey McMakin at No.6, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4, ending McMakin's team-best six-match winning streak.
UC Davis returns to action on Saturday when it faces Saint Mary's in Moraga. Matchtime is set for noon.
