DAVIS, Calif. - Greg Lee and Paul Dilloway captured the Aggies only point with a victory at No.1 doubles as the University of San Francisco defeated UC Davis, 8-1, in a men's tennis match Sunday afternoon at Hickey Courts.
With the loss the Aggies fall to 3-8 on the season.
Doubles play opened up with the Dons taking two of three matches. Lee and Dilloway provided the Aggies with their lone highlight of the afternoon as they defeated USF's No.1 team of Joachim Lien and Mason Fuller, 8-4. Lien and Fuller entered the match ranked No.58 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's national doubles rankings, but the pair could not handle the Aggie duo, which won their ninth consecutive match.
In singles play, USF sealed the victory by taking all six matches. Lien and Lee had a battle at No.1, although the 6-3, 6-1 win by Lien did not indicate just how close the match was. Blake Roberts at No.3 won his opening set against Fuller, but Fuller rallied for the 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 win. The only other three-set match came at No.5 where the Aggies' Kyle Trinosky and USF's Christian Dyvik split the opening two sets. With the team match already clinched, the two played a tie-breaker for the third set, which Dyvik pulled out, 10-8.
"I think Greg and Paul's win at No.1 was very exciting," said Aggie Head Coach Daryl Lee. "USF's team is ranked No.58 in the nation and it was the second time this season Greg and Paul have beaten them.
"I was impressed with out team today and especially Kyle (Trinosky), who is making a lot of progress mentally," Lee continued. "Our doubles teams are getting stronger and we we continue to show a lot of teamwork on the court."
UC Davis will next be in action on Saturday when it hosts Sonoma State at Hickey Courts. Matchtime is set for 1pm.
