DAVIS, Calif. -- The UC Davis men's tennis team opened up its five-match homestand on Sunday with a pair of dominating victories, defeating visiting Montana and Sonoma State by the scores of 6-1 and 7-0, respectively, in a doubleheader at the Marya Welch Tennis Center on campus.

The wins pushed the Aggies back over the .500 mark, improving them to 7-6 overall on the spring. The Grizzlies fell to 3-6 on the year while the Seawolves fell to 1-5.

UC Davis took home the doubles point in each of the two duals on the day while taking home wins in 11 of the 12 singles matches. Alec Adamson, James Wade, Parker Kelley, and Bryce McKelvie, won both of their singles contests on the day while all three doubles pairings of Adamson and Adam Levie, Kelley and Wade, and Brett Bacharach and Adam Luba, took home at least one win in doubles.

In the opener, wins of 8-4 at No. 1 doubles and an 8-0 shutout at No. 2 propelled the Aggies to the early 1-0 lead. With the doubles point in hand, UC Davis went on to win five of the six singles contests -- including straight-set wins at the Nos. 2, 4, 5, and 6 positions -- to claim the overall victory.

At the top of the ladder, Adamson was a three-set winner over Andrew Warren, rallying for a 6-7, 6-2, 11-9, triumph, while Montana's Tomasz Soltyka spoiled the Aggies' shutout bid at the No. 3 position, battling Bacharach in a three-set marathon, rallying after a loss in the second set for a, 6-3, 3-6, 10-3, victory.

In the second half of the doubleheader against Sonoma State, UC Davis surrendered only three points in doubles play with wins of 8-1 and 8-2 at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively, then went on to sweep singles play en route to the 7-0 shutout -- the team's second of the season.

The Aggies won five of the six singles contests in straight-sets, including a win by sophomore Mitch Thorp, who lost only one game on his way to a 6-1, 6-0, victory over Vinny Paganetti at No. 6. Wade, who improved to 20-6 overall in singles play and 11-2 in dual matches with his two wins on Sunday, also finished the day strong to extend his personal winning streak to four, surrendering only two games in his 6-1, 6-1, win over Daniel Holz at No. 3. Wade has won nine of his last 10 singles matches overall.

Bacharach, who has played in more three-set matches (11) than any other UC Davis player this season, rebounded from his singles loss against Montana to rally for a 4-6, 6-2, 10-4, win over Philip Holbrook at the No. 2 spot.

The Aggies' homestand continues with a pair of matches this week, hosting Youngstown State on Wednesday (March 12) at 1 p.m., and New Mexico State on Friday (March 14) at 2 p.m., at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
