DAVIS, Calif. - No.6 Hawaii Pacific captured all six singles matches to complete a 9-0 sweep of No.26 UC Davis in a non-conference men's tennis match Monday afternoon at Hickey Courts.
With the loss the Aggies fall to 4-10 on the season.
The Sea Warriors came out strong and captured the opening three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead heading into singles play. UC Davis, playing without two starters, had difficulty matching the experience of a very talented HPU squad.
In singles play, only Aggie Greg Lee at No.1 was able to extend his match to a third set. Going against Mikael Maatta, the nation's No.7-ranked play, Lee captured the second set 6-3, but Maatta was too strong, closing out the match, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.
"I think we competed well today," said Aggie Head Coach Daryl Lee. "Give Hawaii Pacific credit, they are a very good team with so much experience. Our guys hung in there but they were too strong today."
The Aggies will next be in action on Saturday when they face Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo.
