RENO, Nev. - The UC Davis men's tennis team captured the opening doubles point then held on in singles as it earned its most complete victory of the season with a 4-3 win over Nevada Saturday afternoon at Caughlin Ranch.

With the win the Aggies improve to 8-8 on the season and avenge a 6-3 loss to Nevada earlier this season in Davis.

UC Davis came out strong by taking the opening doubles point against its Division I opponent. Jayce Fitch and Ross Barasch earned an 8-5 win over Adam Jooste and Daniel Ericsson at No.1. Brothers Casey and Kyle McMakin picked up the other Aggie win with an 8-4 victory over Milos Popovic and Kensuke Watabe at No.3. At the second doubles spot, Brandon Sieh and Rudolf Leuschner defeated the Aggie duo of Bastian Bartels and Michael Chin, 8-3.

In singles play the Aggies got a big boost from Robert Wong at No.2. Wong won two close sets to defeat Leuschner 7-6, 6-4. UC Davis also got three-set wins from Barasch and Casey McMakin to close out the match. Barasch dropped a first-set tiebreaker before rallying for the 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 win over Ericsson at No.4 while McMakin dropped the middle set in a 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 win over Rafal Stupka at No.6.

Nevada captured the other three singles as Jooste defeated Fitch, 6-3, 6-3, at No.1 and Popovic defeated Chin, 6-4, 0-6, 6-2, at No.3. Sieh posted a straight-set win over Blake Roberts with a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No.5.

"I think this victory is a reflection of our team having good character and continuing to battle all match," said Aggie head coach Daryl Lee. "We came out strong in doubles and carried that momentum into the singles."
