DAVIS, Calif. - UC San Diego swept the opening three doubles sets then won two singles matches before the rain came as it defeated UC Davis 5-0 in a rain-shortened match Saturday afternoon at Hickey Courts.

The loss ends the Aggie dual-match season with an 8-10 record. UC San Diego improves to 15-9.

The Tritons began the day with three victories in doubles as Sameer Chopra and Jeffrey Wilson defeated Jayce Fitch and Ross Barasch 8-4 at No.1. Bryan Swatt and Amir Nejad posted an 8-3 win over Michael Chin and Bastian Bartels while Nick Morton and Brent Molden won by an identical 8-3 score over Kyle Trinosky and Casey McMakin at No.3.

In singles play UC San Diego clinched the match when Swatt defeated Fitch, 6-1, 6-3, at No.1 and Molden defeated Barasch, 6-0, 6-4 at No.4. With the outcome of the match decided and rain forcing play to be suspended, the remaining four matches on court were not completed. The Aggies were leading in two of those as McMakin dropped the first set but rallied over Nejad to lead 3-6, 6-4, 2-1 at No.5 singles. Blake Roberts also dropped the first set but was leading 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 at No.6 when rain ended the match.

Robert Wong and Wilson were 4-4 in the second set after Wilson captured the first, 6-3, at No.2 singles and Chin was ahead 4-3 in the second after losing the first 6-3 to Emil Novak at No.3.

"I think this season shows that we do have the willingness to learn from our matches and that is the most encouraging thing for me as a coach," said Aggie head coach Daryl Lee. "We are a very young team and our youth was exposed, especially in doubles. That is an area we must show improvement in over the summer and into next season."

UC Davis will next be in action on when it competes in the Ojai Championships, Apr. 22-25 in Ojai, Calif.
