DAVIS, Calif. - DAVIS, Calif. -- UC San Diego captured two of three doubles matches then went on to clinch the match with four singles victories as the Tritons defeated UC Davis, 6-3, in a mens tennis match Sunday afternoon at Hickey Courts.
With the loss the Aggies fall to 4-12 on the season and conclude the home portion of their 2003 schedule.
UC Davis took the first point of the match as seniors Greg Lee and Paul Dilloway ran their winning streak to 12 straight as they defeated Sameer Chopra and Bryan Swatt, the 17th-ranked team in the nation, 8-1. The Tritons would respond with victories at No.2 and No.3 doubles to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
UC San Diego would clinch the match at the bottom of the lineup as it captured the No.3 through No.6 matches, all in straight sets. The Aggies won at the top two positions with Dilloway earned a 4-6, 7-5, (10-7) victory over Chopra at No.2 and Lee needing three sets to defeat Meyer, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
The win for Lee was his team-leading 24th of the year against just five defeats. He also improved to 9-2 against NCAA Division II opponents. The tandem of Lee and Dilloway are 22-5 on the season.
The Aggies will next be in action on Tuesday when they conclude their regular season with a match at Sonoma State.
