UC Davis held a 2-1 lead following doubles and increased that lead with four singles victories as the Aggies defeated Sonoma State, 6-3, in a men's tennis match Tuesday afternoon at Seawolf Courts.
With the win the Aggies improve to 5-12 on the season, evening their record at 4-4 against Division II opponents. Having the .500 record in Division II play allows UC Davis to be eligible for the NCAA Division II West Region championships, which are to be played May 2-3 at a site to be determined.
In Tuesday's match, UC Davis captured two of three doubles matches at it won at No.2 and No.3. At No.1 doubles, the Sonoma duo of Nestor Bernabe and Westly Keister snapped Greg Lee and Paul Dilloway's 12-match winning streak, handing the Aggie duo an 8-4 loss.
In singles play the Aggies clinched the match with four wins. Lee improved his season record to 25-5 with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Bernabe at No.1 while Dilloway won in straight sets over Patrick Nagle at No.2. UC Davis also received wins from Blake Roberts at No.3 and Ross Barasch at No.5.
UC Davis is expected to hear on Wednesday who it will face in the first round of the NCAA West Regional.
