OJAI, Calif. - Freshman Jayce Fitch earned an easy opening-round win in the morning then dropped his quarterfinal match during the second day of play at the 2004 Ojai Valley Championships on Friday.
Fitch opened his tournament with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Van Ngo of Hope International in the first round. Later on Friday, Fitch faced No.2-seed David Goodman of Azusa Pacific and fell in two close sets, 6-4, 6-4.
Also in action on Friday was freshman Michael Chin. Chin faced the tournament's top-seed in Adam Davidson of Azusa Pacific and after taking the first set, Chin could not hold on as Davidson rallied for the 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 victory.
Chin also competed in the doubles draw, teaming with Bastian Bartels. The Aggie duo rallied after dropping the first set, but couldn't sustain the momentum as the pair of Thommas DeLiefde and Tony Larson of Westmont defeated Chin and Bartels, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.
Play continues at the Ojai Championships through Sunday.
