DAVIS, Calif. – Sunday’s draw at the 2013 Aggie Invitational will feature a list of familiar faces as six UC Davis players battled through a grueling day of matches in the second day of action from the Marya Welch Tennis Center to advance to either semifinal, or final round matches in the event’s final day.

In addition to one round of singles activity, two doubles rounds and singles round robin action were featured throughout Saturday’s schedule.

The main draw in the Big West doubles bracket featured back-to-back victories from Adam Levie and Parker Kelley as the two earned a berth in Sunday’s final by defeating Sonoma State’s Matt Roberts and Philip Holbrook 8-7 (5), and Sacramento State’s pairing of Niranjan Ram and Oliver Anderson (8-4).

Levie/Kelley will battle Portland’s Michael Hukwo and Reid DeLaubenfels, the bracket’s No. 1 seed, at 9 a.m.

Also competing at 9 a.m. in the finals of the California bracket are Bryce McKelvie and James Wade. Competing in their inaugural event as members of UC Davis men’s tennis, the pair will battle Saint Mary’s Alec Wagner and Mathias Olsen before competing in their respective singles matches later that day.

McKelvie/Wade defeated Nevada’s Vlad Shchetininn and Ethan Ogard 8-6 in Saturday’s semifinal.

Consolation doubles matches in the Aggie bracket included a strong run from Adam Luba and Kyle Miller. After defeating cross-Causeway rivals Ayman Abdulwahab and Marek Marksoo 8-4, the pair fell in the semis to Oregon’s Jayson Amos and Joey Swasland.

In the day’s lone round of singles play, Brett Bacharach punched his ticket to the consolation semifinals of the Aggie bracket with his 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (7) triumph over San Francisco’s No. 4 seed, Thomas Takemoto. With his win, Bacharach will face DeLaubenfels at 10:30 a.m.

Another three Aggies competing in the same bracket, with scheduled singles matches at 10:30 a.m., are Alec Adamson, Kelley and Wade. Scattered throughout the Big West’s main draw, the trio collectively earned all but one available spots in Sunday’s semifinals.

Featured in the top half of that bracket is a matchup involving Oregon’s Jayson Amos and Wade. After splitting the first two sets against Nevada’s Fernando Sunago 7-5 and 6-7, Wade pulled through in the final set by a 6-2 score to advance.

The flight’s other half features an all-UC Davis matchup involving Adamson and No. 2 seed Kelley. The former advanced with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 win against Nevada’s Ryan Andrada, the latter easily breezed past Santa Clara’s Sam Bertram to set up a unique, yet positive situation for UC Davis.

At least one student-athlete is guaranteed to advance to the tournament’s 1:30 p.m. final; another all-UC Davis matchup will take place if Wade is able to secure another victory.

McKelvie, the only Aggie represented in the Big West’s consolation draw, also has matchup scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning. By defeating Cal’s Jack Sanford 7-6 (4), 7-6 (0), McKelvie will advance to Sunday’s 1:30 p.m. consolation final if he is able to defeat Portland’s Justin Guay.

Levie, the final Aggie scheduled to take the court at the Marya Welch Tennis Center, will meet Quentin Mege in the final singles match of the California bracket. Levie earned a Sunday morning matchup against one Nevada player, by defeating another Saturday; after squeaking past Billy Baumgartner in the first set by a 7-5 score, he made quick work in the second set and secured a straight-set sweep with his 6-1 effort.

In round robin action, Luba downed Fresno State’s Ethan Lopez in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
