Greg Lee and Paul Dilloway, the No.1 seeds in the A Flight doubles, advanced to the second round with an 8-1 win over Nevada's Rudi Leuschner and Max Volger in the first round of the Pacific Invitational Friday afternoon.
In singles play, Lee, the No.1 seed, received a bye and will face St. Mary's Thomas Burgemeister in the second round on Saturday. Dilloway ran into Pacific's Vincent Kubler and dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision in the first round. Also competing for UC Davis were Nikolai Novikov, Blake Roberts, Kyle Trinosky and Eric Holmes, all in the C Flight singles.Roberts defeated Justin Coupe of UC Santa Cruz, 6-3, 6-4, to advance to Saturday's quarterfinals.
In doubles play, Holmes and Trinosky dropped their opening-round match, falling 8-6 to St. Mary's Filip Saravic and J.J. Whitinger while Novikov and Roberts fell to Palmer Taylor and Matt Brunner of UC Santa Cruz, 9-7.
Play continues at the Pacific Invitational through Sunday.
