STOCKTON, Calif. -
"Championship Sunday" at the Pacific Tiger Invitational had a decided UC Davis flair on the final day as five Aggie men's tennis players came home with titles and three more made the championship match to close out the fall portion of the 2013-14 season.
UC Davis' top-seeded duo of freshman Alec Adamson and sophomore Adam Levie claimed the main draw doubles title while freshman James Wade in Flight 'A' and the duo of seniors Adam Luba and Kyle Miller each claimed consolation crowns.
The quintet joins sophomore Adam Levie, who won the Flight 'C' main flight singles title earlier on Saturday (Nov. 2), as champions at the event.
Adamson and Levie began the day with an, 8-5, win over Nevada's Robert Allen and Moez Chargui in the semifinals, and were joined in the championship match by teammates senior Parker Kelley and freshman Bryce McKelvie, who defeated Fresno State's John Daermstaedter and Adriaan DuToit, 8-3, in the other semifinal.
Adamson and Levie then emerged as doubles champions in the all-Aggie final, defeating their teammates by an 8-3 count.
In the Flight 'A' consolation singles championship, freshman James Wade brought home UC Davis' second title, defeating Holy Names' Tracy Beblie in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1, while Luba and Miller rounded out the title haul by winning the consolation doubles title with an easy, 8-1, victory over Nevada's Billy Bumgardner and Fernando Sunago.
The second-seeded Miller almost made it a 2-for-2 title day in the Flight 'B' main draw singles championship, but the Pacific Grove, Calif., native fell to the Wolf Pack's top-seeded Chargui in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
The Aggies now take the rest of the year off before returning to the courts for the spring on Jan. 18, 2014, with a dual match at Santa Clara at 10 a.m.
