IRVINE, Calif. - Toki Sherbakov earned Big West All-Conference First Team honors in singles for the UC Davis men's tennis team while Kyle Miller added Honorable Mention status, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
The Aggies also placed two doubles teams on the All-Big West teams, including a Second Team accolade for the pair of Hugo Verdi-Fortin and Miller. Josh Albert and Sherbakov garnered Honorable Mention in doubles play to round out the postseason honors.
Sherbakov led UC Davis at the No. 1 singles position for the entire season, reaching double-digit victories and finishing with a 10-11 overall record in dual matches. He had three straight singles wins towards the end of the season, including a win in the No. 1 spot during the Big West Championships.
Miller vaulted into the primary No. 2 singles player as a sophomore, after playing in the No. 4 position in 2011. He tied for the team high with 10 singles wins on the season, tallying a 10-10 mark in dual matches. Miller won six of his last 10 singles matches to close out the regular season.
In doubles play, Verdi-Fortin and Miller had a hot start to the season, beginning with a 6-2 record at the No. 1 position. The top duo for the Aggies finished with a 7-8 mark in the No. 1 spot and a 7-11 overall record in dual matches. Sherbakov and Albert paired up late in the season and finished with a 3-5 overall record in dual matches, including a victory in the Big West Championships that helped UC Davis win the doubles point in the first round.
UC Davis advanced out of the first round with the first-ever program victory in the Big West postseason, taking a 4-1 victory over Pacific in the quarterfinal round.
