IRVINE, Calif. - UC Davis landed a total of 27 student-athletes on the Big West Academic All-Conference rolls for spring sports while adding four Academic selections for winter sports, it was announced by the league office on Friday.
The Aggies spread honorees across eight spring sports and two winter sports, including two from baseball, two from men's tennis, two from women's tennis, one from men's golf, one from women's golf, three from men's track and field, nine from women's track and field, seven from women's water polo, one from men's basketball and three from women's basketball.
In all, 214 Big West student-athletes were on the spring list and 23 student-athletes earned winter honors. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes have to maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, have attained a sophomore standing academically and competed in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests.
The UC Davis women's water polo team had the highest percentage of student-athletes represented on their respective honor roll, boasting seven among the 25 awardees in that sport. Alicia Began, Hannah Curran, Kaylee Miller, Dakotah Mohr, Erin Schlueter, Katie Schlueter and Riane Woods all received honors.
Women's track and field had the highest number of plaudits of any UC Davis team with nine student-athletes finding their place on the list. Nicole Aha, Kristin Arkin, Alycia Cridebring, Kellie Grigg, Shannon Harcus, Samantha Kearney, Kira Rienecker, Sarah Sumpter and Hilary Teaford each were all-academic selections.
The UC Davis baseball team was represented by Eric Johnson and Harry Stanwyck. Alec Haley and Toki Sherbakov were two of the 10 men's tennis recipients while Lauren Curry and Megan Heneghan earned women's tennis nods.
The Aggie men's and women's golf teams each posted one selection thanks to Josh Granger and Jessica Chulya, respectively. Men's track and field rounded out the remaining spring honorees with Brock Bennett, Will Guthrie and Alexander Summers.
For the winter honor roll, Harrison DuPont was one of just nine men's basketball selections while the Aggies managed recognition for Idit Oryon, Brianna Salvatore and Hannah Stephens for women's basketball.
