DAVIS, Calif. – Second-year head coach Eric Steidlmayer and the UC Davis men’s tennis program have announced their 2013-14 schedule, which includes six fall tournaments and 20 spring dual matches.
UC Davis will host the Aggie Pro-Am on Sept. 21 to start the fall season, before heading to the Fresno State Bulldog Classic the following weekend.
The Aggies then host a three-day tournament, the Aggie Invitational, from Oct. 4-6.
UC Davis closes out the fall portion of the schedule with trips to the UCSB Classic from Oct. 11-13, the ITA Northwest Regional, hosted by Stanford, from Oct. 18-22, and the Pacific Invitational, from Nov. 1-3.
The spring season picks up on Jan. 18, when the Aggies make a visit to Santa Clara. Another road match, this time at Pacific, on Jan. 25, precedes a season-long four-match homestand. UC Davis will play host to San Francisco on Feb. 1, Loyola Marymount on Feb. 2, Sonoma State and UC Riverside on Feb. 8, and Holy Names and Saint Mary’s on Feb. 15.
The Aggies will make the short trip to Sacramento State Feb. 16, with five Causeway Cup points on the line, before visiting USC on Feb. 21. UC Davis will say in SoCal after battling the Trojans. The Aggies will participate in the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships from Feb. 27-March 2 in La Jolla, Calif., where they will also battle Villanova in a neutral site dual on March 2.
The Aggie will play at Fresno State on March 8 before hosting three straight non-conference home matches – March 9 against Montana, March 12 versus Youngstown State and March 26 with Eastern Washington.
A quick trip to Reno, Nev., to meet Nevada will take place on March 28 before another three-match homestand, including two Big West Conference foes. The Aggies will battle UC Irvine on March 30, Hawai’i on April 1 and Air Force on April 5.
The regular season ends with two league matches at UC Santa Barbara on April 11 and Cal Poly on April 12. Steidlmayer and the Aggies will host an Alumni Match on April 19 while preparing for the Big West Championships, which run from April 24-27.
UC Davis returns its top three players, in terms of total wins, from last season’s roster. Senior Kyle Miller went a team best 14-7 last season, mostly at No. 2 singles, while senior Parker Kelley posted a 12-8 record. Sophomore Brett Bacharach went 11-10 for the third most wins on the team. Steidlmayer will also have the services of a highly rated recruiting class in 2013-14, which includes high school All-American, Alec Adamson.
