DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis men’s tennis will start the 2013-14 season at its own tournament, the Aggie Invitational, at the Marya Welch Tennis Center this weekend. One of 13 teams competing throughout the weekend, this weekend’s event is the first of four tournaments on the Aggies' fall schedule. Other upcoming events involving men's tennis include the UC Santa Barbara Classic (Oct. 11-13), ITA Northwest Regional (Oct. 18-22) in Stanford, Calif., and the Pacific Invitational (Nov. 1-3) in Stockton, Calif.

Due to amount of events taking place throughout the tournament, matches will take place at two locations. Davis High School, located just a short walk from UC Davis, will host all California flight action; as the tournament’s primary site, the Marya Welch Tennis Center will host all matches from the Aggie and Big West brackets.

Starting with one doubles and two singles rounds Friday, the event will continue the following day with one singles and two doubles rounds, before concluding Sunday afternoon with the doubles final, singles semifinals and finals.

Daily parking passes can be purchased at automated machines in lots 15 and the structure off Howard Way for $8, these are the two closest lots to the Marya Welch Tennis Center that are available to the public.

This year’s Aggie Invitational will serve as the inaugural match for UC Davis’ heralded freshman class, a group of incoming student-athletes that include Alec Adamson, Bryce McKelvie and James Wade. Organized by then-first year head coach Eric Steidlmayer and assistant Michael Meyer, the Aggies' current freshman class received a No. 15 mid-major ranking by TennisRecruiting.net.

Adamson will face Saint Mary’s Nathan Lewis, McKelvie will square off against Pacific’s Ben Mirkin with Wade drawing Saint Mary’s John Stormans in their inaugural Big West singles bracket matches.

Seniors Adam Luba and Parker Kelley also earned berths in the same bracket as their freshmen teammates; Luba will take the court Friday against Oregon’s Jayson Amos, Kelley will face Yezan Dayeh, from San Francisco, in his opening match.

Aggies competing in the California singles flight include sophomores Mitch Thorp and Adam Levie; the former will open against Nevada’s Quentin Mege with the latter competing against Eric Spence from Pacific.

Fifteen minutes after senior Kyle Miller begins action, as part of the Aggie bracket, in a 10:15 a.m. match against Cal’s Wyatt Houghton, sophomore Brett Bacharach will meet Portland’s Michael Hukwo in singles competition.

Adamson/Bacharach and Levie/Kelley are the two UC Davis doubles teams that will compete in the Big West doubles flight throughout the weekend, McKelvie/Wade and Luba/Miller are the lone Aggie representatives in the California and Aggie brackets respectively.

Joining the host Aggies and making the trip to Davis this weekend are men’s tennis teams from Cal, Fresno State, Nevada, Oregon, Pacific, Portland, Sacramento State, Saint Mary’s, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Sonoma State and Stanford.
