DAVIS, Calif. — After a two-week break from tournament play, the UC Davis men’s tennis team travels a somewhat short way down south to Stockton, Calif., to compete at the 2017 ITA Northwest Regional Championships. The tournament begins on Thursday (Oct. 19), and runs through the weekend, with the championship matches to be contested on Tuesday (Oct. 24).
The ITA Regional Championships will have 85 ITA Regional Championships competition sites across the country, which will host over 8,000 student-athletes in total from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges. At the Northwest Regional Championships in specific, a total of 16 schools, including UC Davis and host Pacific, will make an appearance at this tournament.
ABOUT THE REGIONAL FIELDS: Pacific anticipates to use a minimum of 18 courts to start off the first day of tournament play, with 12 main draw courts at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center, and six courts at the Oak Park Tennis Club. The latter of the two sites will be used for the purpose of getting matches going in a timely manner. After a good sum of matches have been completed, the remaining matches will take place only at Pacific’s Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.
The draw size will be 128 for singles and 64 for doubles. The regional’s main draw singles and doubles champions will earn automatic berths to the 2017 ITA Fall National Intercollegiate Championships from Nov. 1-5 at the JW Marriot and the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Palm Desert, Calif.
