DAVIS, Calif. -
FIRST SERVE: After a couple of stellar runs through the brackets at the USTA/ITA Northwest Regionals in Moraga, the UC Davis men's tennis team closes out its fall season by making the short jaunt south to Stockton, Calif., to participate in the 2013 Pacific Tiger Invitational hosted by the University of the Pacific. Play begins on Friday (Nov. 1) at 8 a.m., and runs throughout the weekend.
THE FIELD: Three flights of singles and one doubles draw awaits the field which features players from 10 different schools including Fresno State, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, Stanford, Nevada, Sonoma State, Fresno Pacific, and Holy Names, along with the Aggies and host Tigers. Complete draws are available at http://tennislink.usta.com/tournaments/TournamentHome/Tournament.aspx?T=149518 and results will be posted when they are available.
UC Davis' opening day schedule is listed below.
AND A FROSH SHALL LEAD THEM: UC Davis' fall has been highlighted by the standout efforts by a pair of freshmen in Alec Adamson and James Wade, who have combined to post a 16-5 singles record through three events this fall. Adamson opened his Aggies career with seven consecutive wins -- three of those coming in three sets -- while Wade has had a pair of three-match winning streaks this season.
NOT TO BE OUTDONE: A year older and a year wiser, sophomore Brett Bacharach has also had a solid fall heading into this week's competition, posting wins in seven of his 10 matches thus far, including four-straight victories en route to the Flight B singles title at the UC Santa Barbara Classic on Oct. 13 with a three-set win over the Gauchos' Sasha Gryaznov for the crown. Last season, Bacharach finished third on the team with 11 singles wins during the spring, playing mostly at the No. 4 spot in the lineup.
DOUBLES TROUBLE FOR THE OPPOSITION: The tandem of Adamson and sophomore Adam Levie have been burning up the courts in doubles competition thus far in 2013, posting wins in seven of their eight outings as doubles partners which included a run to the main draw semifinals of the USTA/ITA Northwest Regionals back on Oct. 22 in Moraga. The duo upset three consecutive seeded teams following its opening round win, upsetting the Nos. 3, 9, and 6, squads in the process before suffering their first loss of the year to No. 8-seeded Emmett Egger and Jeff Hawke of Washington.
LOOKING AHEAD: The Aggies officially open up the spring portion of their schedule on Jan. 18, 2014, on the road, taking on Santa Clara at 10 a.m., at the Degheri Tennis Center on campus.
