DAVIS, Calif. — After officially concluding their fall tournament season this past weekend, UC Davis men’s tennis will have a couple months off from competition before the start of their 2018 spring campaign on Jan 13. From that date on, the Aggies are scheduled to play in 23 match events, which will entail a trip up north to Washington, a plane ride over the Pacific Ocean to play in Hawai’i, and a travel to Nevada, as well as having nine game days take place at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
UC Davis will kick-off its spring slate starting on Jan. 13 starting their first two games of the season at Fresno State, where the Aggies will go head-to-head with players from both Pacific, starting at 2 p.m., and then Fresno State, starting at 6 p.m.
For the following two weekends, the team will make two separate trips to Los Angeles, Calif., to take on USC at 10:00 a.m. on Jan. 20, and then to participate in the ITA Division I Kick-Off Weekend tournament on Jan. 26-28 at UCLA.
Opening up the month of February, the Aggies will have its first home dual matches on Feb. 3 when the University of San Francisco visits campus. On the following weekend (Feb. 9-11), UC Davis will make a trek up to Washington to play against the Washington Huskies and Portland in Seattle on Friday and Saturday, respectively, and then on Sunday, the Aggies will round out their Washington trip with a game day against Gonzaga in Spokane.
The UC Davis men’s tennis will remain at home the weekend of Feb. 17-18, starting the first weekend day playing Sonoma State at 10 a.m., and then Saint Mary’s later on at 2 p.m. On the next day, the Aggies will play against Santa Clara at 1 p.m. before heading to Palo Alto, Calif., for a dual match against Stanford on the following Friday (Feb. 23).
Starting off their March competition season, the Aggies will head south to San Diego, Calif. to participate in the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships (Mar. 1-4), as well as a dual match with Boise State at a neutral site (Mar. 1), starting at 1 p.m.
On Mar. 9-11, UC Davis will stay put at home as they host the Golden State Invitational at the Marya Welch Tennis Center, before traveling to two different states for their next two competitions. For the first weekend following their home tournament, the men will make a trip to Reno, Nev., to face the University of Nevada on Mar. 17, and then on Mar. 27, the Aggies will travel to a much more tropical place as they take on fellow conference team, the University of Hawai’i, at the UH Tennis Complex.
After two travel matches in-a-row, UC Davis is scheduled to play on their home courts, welcoming Brown University on Mar. 31 at 12 p.m.
Going into the month of April, the Aggies will play the next five games with Big West Conference teams. On Apr. 11, the men will make a trip across the Causeway to meet with conference rival Sacramento State at their courts at 2 p.m., followed by a trip to Santa Barbara to play against UC Santa Barbara at the same time two days later (Apr. 13). The next day (Apr. 14), the Aggies, the current No. 2 Big West Conference tennis team, will head over to San Luis Obispo to face Cal Poly, the current No. 1 Big West Conference tennis team, at 1 p.m.
The Aggies will end their last competition season with two conference dual matches at the Marya Welch Tennis Center as they first take on IC Irvine, and then UC Riverside at 1:30 p.m. on Apr. 21. These two matches will serve as the team’s final tune-ups before action begins art the Big West Conference Men’s Tennis Tournament in Indian Wells, Calif.
For the 15th consecutive season, the Indian Wells Tennis Garden will serve as the site of the league’s year-end postseason tournament. The dates for the Big West Conference Championships and the NCAA Championships have not been released yet.
