LA JOLLA, Calif. - Junior Patrick Jacobson scored four goals to lead No.14 UC Davis to a 17-6 victory over Pomona-Pitzer in the opening round of the 2004 UC San Diego Triton Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Canyonview Aquatic Center. Later in the day, the Aggies carried a 7-5 lead into the fourth quarter but could not hold on as No.9 UC San Diego outscored Uc Davis 6-1 in the final period for an 11-8 victory.

Saturday marked the season-opener for the Aggies.

Against Pomona the score was tied 3-3 after the first period but it was all Aggies after that. UC Davis held a 7-4 lead at halftime as Jacobson, Conor Duignan and Kevin Bacharach each had a pair of goals in the opening half.

The Aggies extended their lead to 13-5 after the third period as five different players scored for UC Davis, including a pair from Josh McNeely. UC Davis then closed out the match for a 4-1 fourth quarter for the final margin of victory.

In all, nine different Aggies scored in the game, including four from Jacobson and three each from Bacharach and Duignan.

In the nightcap, the Aggies appeared to be in control until a furious fourth quarter comeback by the Tritons produced the 11-8 win. UC Davis held a 6-4 halftime lead, sparked by two goals from sophomore David Welch. Chris Eichholz and Jesse Casellini each scored twice in the final period to spark the Triton rally.
