Aggies Conclude Triton Invitational With Win Over Air Force

Sept. 5, 2004

LA JOLLA, Calif. - Sophomores Kevin Bacharach and David Welch each scored a pair of goals but it was not enough as Redlands recorded the only extra period goal to defeated UC Davis 8-7 in overtime during the second day of play at the 2004 UC San Diego Triton Invitational Sunday afternoon at the Canyonview Aquatic Center. Later in the day, the Aggies defeated Air Force 10-5 in their fourth and final game of the weekend.

With the split the Aggies' season record moves to 2-2.

Against Redlands the Aggies held a 2-1 lead after the first period and then took a slim 3-2 lead into halftime. Redlands led 5-4 entering the fourth period but the Aggies tied the game at 7-7 in the fourth to force overtime.

In overtime, Redlands scored in the first of two three-minute extra periods and the defense did the rest as UC Davis was held scoreless over the final six minutes of play.

In addition to Bacharach and Welch, Patrick Jacobson, Jesse Tweed and Brian Hodgens each recorded goals for the Aggies.

No statistics were available for the Air Force game.

"Redlands was a hard-fought game and they came out wanting to take us," said Aggie head coach Steve Doten. "We led much of the game and then just ran out of gas in overtime."

UC Davis returns to the pool on Sunday when it hosts national power UC Berkeley at Schaal Aquatic Center at noon.
