REDLANDS, Calif. - Freshman Kevin Bacharach scored five goals to lead nine players in the scoring column as UC Davis defeated Occidental, 15-2, in the final game at the Inland Empire Men's Water Polo Tournament Sunday afternoon at the Thompson Aquatic Center. Earlier in the day UC Davis defeated host Redlands, 5-4.
With the sweep the Aggies improve to 3-2 on the season, winning their last three contests.
UC Davis jumped out early, taking a 4-1 lead after the opening quarter then extending it to an 11-2 halftime margin. The Aggies would score the only four goals in the second half, three in the third and one in the fourth for the final margin of victory.
UC Davis started a lineup that feature all freshmen and one sophomore, two-meter man Conor Duignan. In net, another freshman, Erik Acevedo, went the distance, registering six saves while allowing just two goals.
"It's good to end the tournament on a winning note," said Aggie head coach Steve Doten. "We started a very young lineup to get a look at the younger players and they responded, especially Kevin, who had a big game."
UC Davis will next be in action on September 26 at UC Santa Cruz. Gametime is set for 4pm.
