Aggies Need Overtime To Defeat Cal Baptist In 11th Place Match

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - No.16 UC Davis scored a goal in the first overtime period and the defense made it stand up as the Aggies defeated No.20 Cal Baptist 12-11 in the 11th place game at the Southern California Men's Water Polo Tournament at the Commerce Pool. In their first game of the day, the Aggies dropped a 6-4 contest against No.11 Loyola Marymount.

With the split the Aggies' season record moves to 4-5.

Against Cal Baptist, the Aggies jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first period but trailed 4-3 at halftime. Both teams put up four goals in the third but it was the Aggies forcing overtime with four goals in the fourth as the two teams ended regulation tied at 11.

For the game Kevin Bacharach and David Welch each had three goals while Tom Jay added two as the Aggies came away from the two-day tournament with a 2-2 record.

In the day's first game the Lions took a 2-0 lead following halftime and the Aggies never could catch up. UC Davis fell behind 5-2 after three periods before outscoring LMU 2-1 in the fourth to make the final score 6-4.

Patrick Jacobson, Michael Long, Welch and Jay each scored goals for UC Davis.

No.2 USC captured the tournament championship with an 8-6 win over No.1 Stanford in the final match Sunday evening.

UC Davis will next be in action on Saturday when it travels to Santa Cruz to compete in the UCSC Slug Fest.
