USAFA, Colo. - Matt MacLachlan and David Welch each scored two goals to lead the No. 8 UC Davis men's water polo team past No. 17 Air Force, 7-5, at the Cadet Natatorium on Sunday morning. The win ends the Aggies' four-game losing streak and improves their record to 5-6.

The Aggies shutout the Falcons, 2-0, in the first quarter but were shutout themselves, 0-2, in the second quarter to go into halftime tied, 2-2. The third quarter proved to be the difference in the tightly-contested match as UC Davis outscored Air Force, 3-1, to gain a 5-3 advantage heading into the final quarter. Another solid defensive effort by the Aggies allowed only two goals in the fourth quarter and they matched the Falcons goal-for-goal to walk away with a 7-5 victory.

Along with the four combined goals from MacLachlan and Welch, the Aggies also got goals from Jeffrey Kurth, Kevin Bacharach and Grant Muenter. Kyle Schafer and Justin Berry also tallied two goals apiece for Air Force while Joey Brewer was the only other Falcon to find the back of the net.

The win gives UC Davis a split of its two-game stay in Colorado and improves its record against WWPA opponents to 2-2. It was also the Falcons' first WWPA loss of the season as they dropped to 4-1 against conference opponents.

The Aggies will be back in action next weekend with three road games, two of which come against WWPA opponents. The team travels to Stockton on Saturday for a game against Pacific and then heads down to Santa Clara and Santa Cruz on Sunday.
