SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Senior George Dingeldein scored three goals and the Aggies erased a 6-2 halftime deficit but it was not enough as BYU-Hawaii defeated UC Davis, 10-9 in overtime Saturday during the second day of play at the UC Santa Cruz Slugfest.
With the loss the Aggie snapped their five-match winning streak and fall to 5-3 on the season.
UC Davis got off to a slow start as BYU held a 4-2 lead after the first quarter then extended the margin to 6-2 by halftime. The Aggies fought back in the third as they outscored the Seasiders, 3-1, and briefly took a lead in the fourth quarter before BYU scored to tie the game at 9-9 and force overtime.
In overtime, which consists of two three-minute periods, both teams were scoreless in the first period before the Seasiders got the game winner with 1:30 left to play. The goal came on a 6-on-5 advantage for BYU.
"We started horribly today," said Aggie head coach Steve Doten. "But the team did a great job of coming back in the second half and we actually went ahead at one point. It was a hard-fought game."
The Aggies were scheduled to face Air Force later Saturday afternoon at the Slugfest. Play concludes with two more games on Sunday.
