DAVIS, Calif. - Junior Chris Finegold's goal with 3:50 left in the fourth period was the game-winner as No.14 UC San Diego earned a 6-5, come-from-behind win over No.14 UC Davis, in a men's water polo game Thursday evening in front of 552 at the Schaal Aquatic Center.

With the loss the Aggies see their five-game winning streak end and fall to 8-6 on the season while the Tritons improve to 14-4.

The Aggies trailed 4-3 at halftime before goals from Tom Jay and Patrick Jacobson gave UC Davis a 5-4 lead with 3:11 left in the third period. UC San Diego's Mathew Budnick tied the game with 2:05 left in the third, his second goal of the contest.

The only scoring in the fourth quarter came midway through the period when Finegold's shot beat Aggie goalie Mike McGee, giving the Tritons the 6-5 lead. UC Davis had one last chance with under 10 seconds left, but Conor Duignan's shot just in front of the goal was blocked by Triton goalie Colin McElroy.

"We came out well and the players did what I asked them to do," said Aggie head coach Steve Doten. "We just made a few mistakes and those mistakes cost us. It was a one goal game and you have to execute down the stretch. If you make a mistake against a top 10 team it can be the difference in the game and tonight it was."

The Aggies cored the first goal of the game just over two minutes in as Jacobson scored the first of his three goals. UC San Diego scored the next two to take a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period. David Welch and Jacobson put the Aggies ahead 3-2 early in the second before two more Triton goals gave UC San Diego the 4-3 halftime lead.

Four of the six Triton goals came during situations when they held a man advantage while the Aggies converted two of three six-on-five opportunities.

UC Davis will next be in action this weekend when it competes at the NorCal Tournament in Stockton.
