Aggies Place 15th At SoCal Invite

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - No. 12 UC Davis dropped a 12-7 decision to No. 19 Saint Francis College of New York, then defeated 17th-ranked Western Water Polo Association leaguemate Santa Clara by a 9-5 final, placing 15th at the SoCal Invitational men's water polo tournament, hosted by UC Santa Barbara.

The Aggies move to 11-7 for the season and 10-2 in WWPA contests.

Senior Anders MacCarthy and Colin Hicks each scored two goals in the morning loss to the Terriers, who were led by senior attacker Marko Genecic and his five goals. The Aggies led 3-2 through the first quarter but fell behind by one at halftime before surrendering six goals in the third. Teddy Nicholson, Chris Richardson and Trevor Allen each added a goal to round out of the UC Davis offense.

In Sunday afternoon's tilt, Richardson posted his eighth hat trick of the year in leading the Aggies past the Broncos. Allen and senior Jared Clapham chipped in two goals apiece, while Michael Wright and Hank Dickey tallied one. The Aggies opened with a 4-1 lead after the first quarter, led 5-2 at halftime then added three goals in a shutout third period to roll to the conference win.

The Aggies return to action on Friday for a road game at Pacific, then follow with their annual Alumni Game as part of the university's Homecoming Saturday on October 6.
