DAVIS, Calif. -
Senior goalkeeper Mike McGee tallied nine saves and six steals to lead No. 9 UC Davis to a 4-2 win over 16th-ranked Air Force in the final game of the Aggie Shootout collegiate men's water polo tournament at Schaal Aquatics Center Sunday.
The Aggies improve to 14-5 overall and remain unbeaten at 11-0 against members of the Western Water Polo Association. The UC Davis-Air Force contest concludes the five-game Shootout, most of which took place on Saturday.
Joseph Smith, Matt MacLachlan, Adam Bennett and Grant Muenter scored one goal each to help the Aggies take a 4-0 lead as McGee sealed up the UC Davis cage for almost 30 minutes of play. Sophomore hole set Alex Churnside finally put Air Force on the board with 2:50 remaining in the fourth, scoring on a 6-on-5 chance. Falcon senior Clark Condict cut the margin to its final 4-2 on another 6-on-5 goal with 20 seconds left in the contest.
Air Force shot just 2-for-20 for the game and was victimized by 18 UC Davis steals.
The Aggies host their alumni game on Saturday, October 13, then hit the road for a three-game Southern California road trip starting on October 19.
