BERKELEY, Calif. -
Freshman Andrija Vasiljevic scored three goals and senior Attila Banhidy added a pair as the top-ranked UC Berkeley men's water polo team defeated No.12 UC Davis, 8-3, Saturday morning at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
With the loss the Aggies fall to 9-7 on the season while the Golden Bears improve to 11-3.
The game began with the Bears taking a 3-0 lead following the first period on goals by Vasiljevic, Banhidy and Brian Kinsel. The two teams played even second and third periods, scoring one goal each in both quarters. The Bears closed out the contest by outscoring UC Davis 3-1 in the fourth.
Senior George Dingeldein scored two goals for UC Davis while sophomore Tom Jay added the Aggies final score. Senior Zach Wordes made three saves while freshman Erik Acevedo blocked four shots as the two shared time in the Aggie net.
UC Davis will continue its weekend play with two matches on Sunday. The Aggies will face Princeton Sunday morning at 10 a.m. then go against the University of Pacific at 2 p.m. Both games will be played in Stockton.
