IRVINE, Calif. - Junior Trevor Allen totaled five goals in two games as UC Davis split its first-day schedule at the UCI Invitational at the Anteater Aquatics Center Saturday. The 14th-ranked Aggies lost to No. 4 Stanford by an 18-7 final in their early game, then pulled away late in a 12-10 victory over No. 13 UC San Diego in the nightcap.

UC Davis moves to 6-7 for the year and 4-0 against Western Water Polo Association foes.

Allen scored all of three of his goals in the first five minutes of play in the evening win over the Tritons, helping the Aggies jump out to a 3-0 lead. Junior Chris Richardson added a fourth before UCSD got on the board with 18 seconds left in the stanza with his 6-on-5 conversion.

Senior Bernie Rogers and sophomore Alex Bagdasarian hit natural goals with a 16-second span early in the second to extend the UC Davis lead to 6-1 before the Tritons hit three straight to cut the margin to 6-4 at the halftime break. Junior Teddy Nicholson hit a goal in the opening minutes of the third to extend the Aggie edge to three, but UC San Diego began to battle back. The Tritons scored on two power plays and hit a five-meter pelanty shot, eventually tying the proceedings at 9-9 just 45 seconds into the fourth. But Rogers finished his hat tricks on a pair of 6-on-5 goals while Austin Beckwith added a natural goal to help the Aggies break loose down the stretch.

Allen hit two goals while five other UC Davis players had one each in the 18-7 loss to Stanford in the 10:50 a.m. matchup. Bagdasarian scored on a power play in the first quarter, Tyler Elliott and Allen netted goals in the second, Lyle Kipp hit one in the third, then Richardson, Allen and Michael Millstein tallied fourth-quarter scores.

However, the Cardinal put up six goals in the first and seven in the third to keep UC Davis at bay. Freshman utility Jackson Kimbell hit four goals while Griffin Bolan and Davis High product Connor Stapleton chipped in three apiece for the Cardinal.

The Aggies will open against eighth-ranked Pepperdine at the Corona Del Mar High School site at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
