STANFORD, Calif. - Juniors Trevor Allen and Chris Richardson each scored two goals but 11th-ranked UC Davis could not overcome a 12-goal run in the first half, falling to No. 4 Stanford by a 19-5 final in men's collegiate water polo action at Avery Aquatic Center Sunday afternoon.
The Aggies fall to 7-10 for the year. The Cardinal improves to 12-4.
Richardson scored on a lob to start the second half, then hit a 6-on-5 in the final minute for his two goals. Allen converted a power play midway through the third quarter, then netted an even-strength goal two minutes into the fourth. Freshman Max Vigeant had UC Davis' fifth goal, converting at the 3:40 mark in the fourth.
For Stanford, junior Alex Bowen tallied five goals while sophomore driver Bret Bonnani added another four. The Cardinal scored seven unanswered in the first quarter and five straight in the second to forge a 12-0 halftime lead.
Sunday's game marks the sixth time in 2013 that UC Davis has faced a team ranked among the nation's top five, including three meetings with Stanford.
The Aggies return to action at Santa Clara's Rodeo tournament on Oct. 26 and 27.
