Senior Eddie Wisniewski scored four goals to lead five Tigers in the scoring column as No.13 Pacific defeated No.17 UC Davis 8-5 in a men's non-conference water polo match Sunday morning.
With the loss the Aggies fall to 13-13 on the season while Pacific improves to 6-16.
Wisniewski would get things started quickly for the Tigers as he scored his 61st goal of the year, 25 seconds into the first period. Fellow senior Eric Akerman added another goal during the period and Pacific had a 3-0 lead after one period.
Pacific's defense continued their aggressive play, holding the Aggies to one goal while coming up with three of its six steals during the period. Tom Jay finally got the Aggies on the board before Adam Zobler goal gave the Tigers a commanding 5-1 lead heading into halftime.
UC Davis cut into the Tigers lead during the third period as Jay scored back-to-back goals within 32 seconds of each other, reducing Pacific's lead to one at 5-4. Wisniewski hit a momentum changing goal from half court in the pool as the buzzer sounded to give the Tigers a two goal lead going into the fourth period at 6-4.
Senior Chris Lancellotti made sure the lead held up by scoring with 6:07 to go in the game. Pacific scored one more time to counter a goal by George Dingeldein of the Aggies and give the Tigers an 8-5 victory.
Jay led the Aggies with three goals on the day, two of which were in the third period. Dingeldein and Josh McNeely each scored for UC Davis, which dropped its third straight game. Goalie Zach Wordes finished with six saves in goal.
UC Davis will next be in action on Saturday when it travels to face Santa Clara.
