DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis junior Adam Bennett was selected as the Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week for the period ending September 2, it was announced by the league office Wednesday. This is the first such award for the 2007 men's season.

Bennett, a 6-foot-3 utility from Merced, Calif., scored a total of 10 goals in four games at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational, including a career-high five in the Aggies' 10-8 win against Cal Baptist. He also helped the team post key victories against WWPA foes UC San Diego and Loyola Marymount, each of which were chosen ahead of UC Davis in the preaseason conference poll.

Additionally, the Aggies jumped three spots to No. 8 in the National Collegiate Top 20, also released Wednesday. UC Davis received 62 total points, three ahead of Long Beach State and nine behind Pepperdine. USC and Cal continue to hold the top two spots in the rankings. The Aggies climbed as high as No. 6 early in the 2006 season.

UC Davis takes on defending national champion Cal in an afternoon tilt in Berkeley on Sunday.
