Addington named WWPA Player of the Week

Sept. 20, 2017

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis freshman goalkeeper Jonah Addington captured Kap7 Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sept. 17, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon. This is the first such honor to go to an Aggie student-athlete this season.

A biological sciences major from Hanford, California, the 6-foot-6 Addington posted 25 saves with just 11 goals against for a glittering .694 average in eight quarters in net during last week’s Aggie Roundup tournament. His best performance came in Sunday’s 7-5 upset of then-No. 8 Pepperdine. He tallied a season-high 12 saves while allowing only the five goals in 32 minutes.

Addington opened the week with five second-half saves in the Aggies’ conference win over then-No. 15 Cal Baptist on Thursday, then added eight blocks in two shutout quarters against Redlands on Sunday.

UC Davis and Pepperdine swapped places in Wednesday’s national coaches’ poll, moving to No. 8 and 9, respectively. Coincidentally, the Aggies and Waves will square off on Friday during the first round of the Mountain Pacific Invitational, hosted by USC and Loyola Marymount.
