Goldschmidt wins another WWPA weekly honor

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis junior utility Ido Goldschmidt won his second Kap7 Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week award of his career, the league office announced Thursday afternoon. The managerial economics major from Herzliya, Israel previously captured the honor on September 27 this season.

Goldschmidt helped the No. 9 Aggies to a 4-0 weekend at Santa Clara’s Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament, including three against Top 20 competition. He totaled eight goals with nine assists and three steals for the weekend, matching the scoring totals of teammates Eric Martel and Marcus Anderson.

Statistically, Goldschmidt enjoyed his best games against the two highest-ranked foes. He opened the tourney with a goal and a season-high five assists against then-No. 12 St. Francis. Not 23 hours later, he shot a perfect 4-for-4 with an assist and two steals to help UC Davis avenge two 2016 losses to Harvard. Goldschmidt also had a goal and an assist against Wagner, plus two goals and two assists against No. 16 Bucknell.

The Aggies outscored their opponents by a combined 61-28 in the four games. UC Davis returns to action in its home finale against Fresno Pacific on Saturday. Game time is noon.
