Hanley named WWPA Player of the Week

Nov. 9, 2017

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis sophomore attacker Yurii Hanley captured the final Kap7/Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week award of the 2017 season, thanks to his performance in two conference road games on Nov. 2 and 4. This is the first such honor for the Orinda, Calif., product and former WWPA All-Freshman honoree.

Hanley totaled seven goals with six assists and four steals between Thursday’s 22-5 win over Loyola Marymount and Saturday’s 15-12 victory at UC San Diego. He opened the weekend with a hat trick and four assists against the Lions, then finished with four goals, two assists, three steals, a drawn exclusion and a drawn five-meter foul in Saturday’s battle for the conference’s top seed. The Aggies finished the WWPA season with a perfect 7-0 record, securing the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament next week.

This is the fourth weekly award to go to an Aggie in 2017. Freshman goalkeeper Jonah Addington won the first on September 20, then junior Ido Goldschmidt captured such accolades on September 27 and October 26.

UC Davis wraps up its regular season at No. 5 Pacific on Saturday.
