Laidig captures first WWPA Player of the Week award

Nov. 15, 2017

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis senior utility and 2017 Western Water Polo Association Player of the Year Cory Laidig was selected as the conference’s Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 12, the league office announced. This is the first such honor for the psychology major from West Hills, California, and the fifth by an Aggie this season.

Laidig scored his second-consecutive hat trick in UC Davis’ regular-season finale against No. 5 Pacific, its highest-ranked opponent of the year since facing then-No. 1 California back in early September. This performance gave Laidig 23 goals for the year, along with his 18 assists and 33 steals. Laidig joins Jonah Addington (Sept. 20), Ido Goldschmidt (Sept. 27 and Oct. 26) and Yurii Hanley (Nov. 8) as UC Davis honorees this year.

The Aggies, tied for eighth in Wednesday’s national poll, take on eighth-seeded Fresno State in the WWPA tournament quarterfinal on Friday. First sprint is scheduled for 11 a.m. at UC San Diego’s Canyonview Aquatic Center.
