LOS ANGELES - UC Davis attacker Bernie Rogers captured Western Water Polo Association Player of the Year distinction and made the all-conference first team, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon. The Del Mar, Calif. native is one of five Aggies to claim an honor: juniors Trevor Allen and Chris Richardson each earned second-team All-WWPA while defender Zoltan Lazar and Max Vigeant each made the WWPA All-Freshman squad.

The Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards, the latter of which went to LMU's Cory McGee, plus the all-conference teams were voted by the six head coaches.

Rogers becomes the first UC Davis player to win WWPA Player of the Year honors since goalkeeper Mike McGee in 2007. Entering the conference tournament, he has 43 goals with team highs of 30 assists and 73 total points. Defensively, he leads Aggie field players with 25 steals. Rogers was particularly effective against the five other WWPA schools, shooting 13-for-27 with seven assists and 11 steals during the designated conference games. He earned two conference Player of the Week during that span, among his three total for the year.

Richardson, who hails from Rancho Palos Verdes, leads the Aggies with 48 goals and 51 drawn exclusions (46 majors, five five-meter). He also has 19 steals, six field blocks, a .403 shooting percentage and eight hat tricks for the year thus far. A second-team All-WWPA pick in 2012, Richardson now ranks sixth in school history with 157 career goals, needing just six to pass both Aaron Salit and Ryan Indart to move into fourth all-time.

Allen, a local product from Davis Senior High, ranks third on the UC Davis squad with 36 goals and 45 total points. He also has contributed 21 steals, 28 drawn exclusions (24 major, four five-meter) and six field blocks, while winning 31 of 39 sprints. Allen captured a share of his first WWPA Player of the Week award back on October 16.

Vigeant and Lazar both appeared among the league's eight All-Freshman honorees. Vigeant, a center from Granite Bay, rates as one of the Aggies' top performers on a per-minute basis: he has shot 11-for-22 with a whopping 27 drawn exclusions in 147.5 total minutes. Lazar, a defender from San Carlos, has nine goals, seven assists and eight field blocks. He leads all UC Davis first-year players with 307 minutes played.

The WWPA Coach of the Year award will be announced at the conclusion of the championship.

UC Davis hosts the WWPA Championship from Friday through Sunday this weekend. The 11th-ranked Aggies hold the top seed with a 5-0 conference mark.
