DAVIS, Calif. - Boise State won Friday's final two matches at 197 pounds and heavyweight, respectively, as the 23rd-ranked Broncos secured a 21-12 win over UC Davis in a Pacific-10 Conference wrestling match before 367 fans at Hickey Gym.

The Aggies, facing their third-ranked opponent in their last four matches, dropped to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the Pac-10. Boise State, second-place finisher at last year's conference championships, improved to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in Pac-10 action.

Tommy Schurkamp (125), Derek Moore (133), Jeremiah Jarvis (157) and Brandon Bear (184) each scored decisions for UC Davis.

Bear beat Casey Phelps at 184 pounds for UC Davis, bringing the Aggies to within 13-12 heading into the evening's final two bouts. However, K.C. Walsh took a 6-2 lead after the first period against the Aggies' Evan Hendrix at 197 pounds on his way to a 21-7 major decision that gave the Broncos a 17-12 advantage.

Boise State secured the match in the last bout as Jacob McGinnis, ranked second in the Pac-10, scored a 13-5 major decision against UC Davis' Michael Clarkston. Clarkston, who usually wrestles at 197, competed up a weight class on Friday but was unable to score the upset despite leading 2-1 at the end of the first period.

UC Davis led 6-0 early in the match. Schurkamp opened the night with an 11-4 win over Clint Wofley at 125 pounds, getting a reversal and a takedown in the third period to pull away for the win. Moore, ranked 15th by The Wrestling Mall, followed with a 12-5 win against Scott Jorgensen at 133 pounds, scoring a takedown and a three-point near fall in the last period.

Jesse Brock got the Broncos going with a 10-4 win against Jeff Bristol at 141 pounds. Brock, ranked second in the conference, led just 5-2 going into the last period but a pair of takedowns and 1 minute, 10 seconds of riding time helped him to the win and the Broncos' first team points. Four takedowns highlighted Nick Budeski's win at 149 against the Aggies' Cris Brines as Boise State tied the match, 6-6.

In a match featuring a pair of nationally ranked wrestlers, 13th-ranked Jarvis picked up five points on a reversal and near fall in the second period to open a 7-4 lead on his way to the 11-8 victory against 14th-ranked Ben Cherrington that gave UC Davis its last lead, 9-6.

A high-scoring 22-11 win by Russell Brunson at 165 over the Aggies' Michael Font featured a combined 17 points by the pair in the final period alone as Boise State took a 10-9 lead. Jonathan Carlisle then used riding time to break a 2-2 deadlock against Frank Richmond in a tightly contested 174-pound bout that had all of its mat-scoring in the second period. Carlisle's win put the Broncos in front, 13-9, heading into the final three matches.

UC Davis returns to action next Friday against Cal State Bakersfield at 3 p.m. and Oregon at 7 p.m. at Recreation Hall. The second match will be held simultaneous with UC Davis' triangular women's gymnastics meet in a promotion titled "Beauty and the Beast."
