Aggies Tune Up For No.9 Iowa With 32-14 Victory Over Gators

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis won seven weight classes on Saturday night, including a pair by pins, as the Aggies beat San Francisco State 32-14 in a nonconference wrestling dual and will now return home to face powerhouse Iowa on Sunday night at The Pavilion.
UC Davis improved to 3-1 with the win while San Francisco State dropped to 1-5.

Daniel Murphree and Ronnie Silva each highlighted the Aggies' win on Saturday by pinning their opponents. Murphree won by fall at 149 pounds at 3 minutes, 47 seconds against Merrick Tan while Silva concluded the evening with a pin at 2:34 against Stephan Burdette at 174.

The Aggies won the first four weight classes against the Gators as Brandon Bear picked up his 11th win at 184 pounds with a 12-1 major decision in the opening bout. Michael Clarkston earned a forfeit at 197 and Broc Maffia and Pancho Manriquez each won decisions at 285 and 125, respectively, as UC Davis opened a 16-0 lead.

Victories by San Francisco State at 133 and 141 set up Murphree's pin while Frank Richmond preceded Silva's pin with an 11-1 major decision against Justin Switzler at 165.

UC Davis now gets set to host its biggest match in the history of the program when Iowa visits The Pavilion on Sunday night for a 7 p.m. dual.

Iowa has been competing for 93 seasons and has amassed astounding numbers including 776 dual wins and a .788 winning percentage. Iowa is coached by Jim Zalesky, brother of Aggie coach Lennie Zalesky. Both were All-America wrestlers for the Hawkeyes.
