DAVIS, Calif. - Consecutive pins by Jeff Bristol at 141 pounds and Kevin Jones at 149 snapped a 12-12 tie and helped lift UC Davis to a 24-18 Pac-10 Conference wrestling win over Oregon before 1,517 fans at Recreation Hall during Friday's "Beauty and the Beasts" promotion with the Aggie women's gymnastics team.

UC Davis, which snapped a four-match losing streak with the win, improved to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in conference action while beating the Ducks for the first time in nine all-time duals. Oregon fell to 1-7 overall with the defeat and 0-3 in Pac-10 competition.

Friday's promotion pitted UC Davis against Oregon on the wrestling mats on one side of the Recreation Hall of floor while the gymnastics team hosted a triangular meet with Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Springfield (Mass.) on the other. Earlier on Friday, UC Davis dropped a 29-13 conference matchup to No.21 Cal State Bakersfield.

UC Davis never trailed against Oregon on Friday night but were tied with the Ducks, 12-12, heading into Bristol's match at 141 against Johnny Lugo. Bristol had a takedown and a three-point near fall in the first period before pinning Lugo with 1 minute, 1 second remaining in the period and giving the Aggies a key 6-point lead.

Jones, who wrestled at 157 in Friday's earlier match, took down Oregon's Elliot Tracy 2:30 into their matchup at 149 after taking a 3-2 lead. His victory clinched the team win for UC Davis, which then forfeited its bout at 157 to Oregon's Joey Bracamonte.

Oregon led the all-time series against UC Davis, 8-0, including convincing wins four of the past five years before the Aggies broke through on Friday night.

"That was exciting," said Aggie coach Lennie Zalesky. "It was exciting to beat Oregon for the first time."

UC Davis led early, taking a 3-0 lead after Michael Font's 11-7 decision against Luke Larwin at 165. After Chet McBee edged the Aggies' Frank Richmond 9-8 at 174, UC Davis went up by five when Brandon Bear posted an 18-2 technical fall against Michael Badicke at 184, benefitting from four takedowns and three near falls.

Tommy Schurkamp's 15-7 major decision victory against Jacob Boyles at 125 pounds helped stopped the momentum of two consecutive Oregon wins that cut the lead to a point and gave the Aggies a 12-9 lead. Jason Harless then downed Cesar Correa at 133, tying the match at 12-12 heading into the exciting conclusing by Bristol and Jones.

UC Davis has faced four ranked teams in its past six matches and beat two squads - Fresno State and Oregon - for the first time. Additionally, injuries sidelined two key starters on Friday.

"We had a chance to win all of those matches," said Zalesky. "To know most of those teams are ranked and to know we haven't put our best team out there yet is encouraging."

The Aggies continue action on Saturday when they host the Aggie Open at Recreation Hall beginning at 9 a.m. Nearly 200 wrestlers are expected for the one-day event.
