BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - UC Davis rallied close to Cal State Bakersfield after falling to an early 13-0 deficit but the host Roadrunners finished strong to beat the Aggies 26-12 in a Pac-10 wrestling match on Friday night at the Icardo Center.

UC Davis dropped to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the Pac-10 while the Roadrunners - ranked 23rd nationally - improved to 12-4 overall and 4-1 in conference action. Brandon Bear had a pin at 184 pounds to help highlight the Aggies' night while Reed Shelger (197) and Daniel Murphree (149) posted wins by decision.

Bear's pin, which came at the 6 minutes, 13 seconds against Scott O'Rear improved his overall record to 13-4. Bear is ranked 20th by The Wrestling Mall and W.I.N. Magazine. Bear led 4-0 at the end of the first period and held a 10-1 lead in the third period before recording his first pin of the season. His victory gave UC Davis its first points after Cal State Bakersfield won the first three matches of the night to take an early 13-0 lead.

Brian Busby had a pin against Jesse Padilla in the night's first bout, Christian Arellano had a late escape and riding time to edge Frank Richmond 10-8 at 165 and No.15 Jason Carrasco outscored Ken Cook 10-1 during the latter stage of the second period and in the third to win 18-8.

Trailing 13-6, the Aggies edged closer to Cal State Bakersfield after Shelger outscored Ryan Bergman 3-2 in the final period at 197 to win 5-4. Eric Parker decisioned Broc Maffia at heavyweight to help stem the tide for the Roadrunners who then won the next three matches - including a major decision by No.3 Matt Sanchez over the Aggies' Derek Moore at 133 - to forge a 26-9 lead.

Murphree trailed Anthony Baza 7-4 entering the third period at 149 pounds in the evening's final bout but scored a pair of two-point near falls, a takedown and a reversal to win 12-9.

UC Davis returns to action next Friday, hosting Cal Poly at 7 p.m. at The Pavilion. The match will be held in conjunction with the women's gymnastics dual against UC Berkeley in "The Beauty and the Beast" promotion.
