SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Junior Michael Anderson finished in third place in the 141-pound weight class, leading UC Davis on Saturday at the 2003 California Collegiate Invitational, hosted by San Francisco State.

UC Davis, which sent just six wrestlers to the event, finished ninth in the team standings with 16.5 points. Fresno State, which beat the Aggies in a dual on Friday, won the tournament with 101 points, finishing ahead of Cal State Bakersfield which scored 75.5.

Anderson finished 3-2 during the one-day invitational, winning by fall in his opening match. A 5-2 victory over Anthony Baza of Cal State Bakersfield in the quarterfinals propelled him into the semis where he dropped a tough 5-3 decision to Pacific Garcia of host San Francisco State. Baza later regained a measure of revenge with a 13-9 win over Anderson in the third-place match.

Virgil Moorehead, Jr., also went 3-2 on Saturday, advancing to the 125-pound consolation semifinals before being eliminated. Freshman Jeff Sato finished 2-2 at 125 pounds, Dan Schon went 2-2 at 174, Bryan Bachar was 1-2 at 165 and Kevin Jones finished 0-2 at 149.

UC Davis returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Cal St. Bakersfield for a Pacific-10 Conference match at the Icardo Center. The dual begins at 7 p.m.
