Roadrunners Roll To 32-6 Wrestling Win Over Aggies

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Cal St. Bakersfield won seven of nine contested matches Wednesday evening as the Roadrunners beat UC Davis, 32-6, in a Pacific-10 Conference wrestling match at the Icardo Center.

The defeat was the third straight for the Aggies, who were missing four starters due to injuries. UC Davis is 6-7 overall and 1-5 in Pac-10 matches. Cal St. Bakersfield is 6-6 overall and 3-3 in conference duals.

Urijah Faber and Jason Paul were the lone winners for the Aggies. Faber, won his eighth straight match at 133 pounds, giving UC Davis a 3-0 lead with a 9-6 decision over Matt Sanchez in the dual's first bout.

Paul's win came at heavyweight after the Roadrunners won the next seven matches, including one by fall and another by forfeit. Paul beat Chad Troxler, 6-2, to make the team score, 28-6.

Cal St. Bakersfield earned decisions by Anthony Baza at 141 over Cris Brines, Jon Sharpe at 149 against Kevin Jones, Christian Arellano versus Michael Font at 165 and Matt Monteiro over Shannan Sams at 174.

The Roadrunners added major decisions by 157-pounder Brian Cobb and 125-pounder Efren Ceballos. Bryan Travers had his first pin of the season, beating the Aggies' Dan Schon at 174 in 3 minutes, 33 seconds.

UC Davis is off until traveling to Stanford on Feb. 14. The match marks the final dual of the season for the Aggies, who will then prepare for the Pac-10 Championships in Boise, Idaho, early next month.
