STANFORD, Calif. - UC Davis captured decisions in five consecutive matches Friday night against Stanford, enabling the Aggies to beat the host Cardinal, 24-11, in a Pacific-10 Conference wrestling dual at Burnham Pavilion.

The victory ended a three-match losing streak for UC Davis, which finished its regular season with a 7-7 overall record and a 2-5 mark in Pac-10 duals. Stanford fell to 3-11 overall and 1-6 in conference action. Michael Font had a pin at 165 pounds for UC Davis.

The Aggies, who have been hampered by injuries in recent meets, trailed 3-0 to the Cardinal after Larry Ozowara decisioned Flynn Ficker, 9-3, at 197 pound in the first match of the evening. However, UC Davis responded by taking the next five bouts - all of them by decision - to forge a 15-3 lead. Jason Paul (285), Tommy Schurkamp (125), Urijah Faber (7-2), Cris Brines (141) and Nick Davis (149) each won for the Aggies during the run. Paul and Schurkamp each had particularly close matches with Paul edging Shawn Ritzenhaler, 9-6, and Schurkamp posting a pair of near-fall points in the second period for a 2-0 win against Nathan Peterson.

Brines had a reversal and a takedown in the third period of his match against Brendon Fox, forging an 8-3 win, while Davis had five takedowns in his 13-7 victory over Scott Polley. Leading 15-7, UC Davis put the match out of reach as Font turned a 6-6 tie with Stanford's Garrett Johnston into a pin at 4 minutes, 12 seconds of their bout at 165. Dan Schon had the Aggies' final win, beating Ryan Hagen, 3-0, at 184.

Matt Gentry (157) and Harold Penson(174) each won by major decision for Stanford's other victories.

Faber improved his record this season to 27-7, finishing the Pac-10 season with a perfect 7-0 record and the dual portion of his year with a 13-1 mark.

UC Davis will now turn its attention to preparations for the Pac-10 Championships in early March at Boise, Idaho.
