KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Rocky Smart of Arizona State beat UC Davis junior Jeremiah Jarvis, 11-5, on Friday morning eliminating Jarvis from the 157-pound division of the 2003 NCAA Divison I Wrestling Championships, being held at Kemper Arena.

Jarvis opened his second consecutive national championship tournament on Thursday morning with a win against Cornell's Gabe Webster before being dropped into the wrestleback bracket with an 9-4 loss to second-seeded Keaton Anderson of Ohio State on Thursday night.

Smart, who lost to Jarvis at the Pacific-10 Conference Championships in Boise, Idaho, earlier in March, enacted revenge against Jarvis with an 11-5 victory on Friday morning. Jarvis was hoping to win four straight matches, which would've made him the first NCAA Division I All-American in program history as a top-eight finisher.

Jarvis won his opening-round match at the national championships for the second straight year, finishing the 2002-03 season with a 23-9 record. His performance at the tournament earned UC Davis two team points.
