SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Junior Nick Davis recorded a 7-4 victory in the final match of the evening to cap a come-from-behind, 16-15, opening-season win for UC Davis over Navy Saturday evening at Sacramento City College.

Davis entered the final match against Navy's Pat Lukanich and jumped out to a 6-3 lead after the first period. The wrestlers would each scone only one more point over the final two periods as UC Davis earned three teams points for the 16-15 win.

The Aggies trailed 12-6 with four matches to go before beginning their comeback. Junior Tommy Schurkamp earned an 8-4 victory at 125 pounds then senior Urijah Faber earned a major decision victory, resulting in four team points, at 133 pounds as he defeated Navy's Matt Gulosh by a score of 15-5. The extra team point proved to be the difference as UC Davis defeated Navy for the first time in school history.

Also earning victories for the Aggies were Jeremiah Jarvis at 157 pounds and Ronnie Silva at 184 pounds.

"It was a great match tonight," said Aggie Head Coach Lennie Zalesky. "It was our first dual match of the season and I think our nerves were a little high. But we have a lot of competitors and they did a good job tonight.

"I thought there were a couple matches early that we could have won but didn't," Zalesky continued. "Fortunately we had enough depth in our lineup to comeback. I thought Nick did a wonderful job of staying in the match. There was a lot of pressure on him, knowing he had to win."

UC Davis will next be in action on Friday, November 15, when it faces Cal State Fullerton at Hickey Gym. That match begins at 7 p.m.
