BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Navy won four straight matches by decision to overcome an early lead by UC Davis Saturday afternoon and defeat the Aggies 23-13 in their first dual of the season held at Cal State Bakersfield's Icardo Center in front of a crowd of 303 spectators.

Omar Gaitan (133) got the action started for the Aggies with an 11-8 decision over Brad Canterbury, using two takedowns and a 3-point near fall to seal the win. Gaitan's win was followed by another Aggie win by Jeff Bristol (141) who went scoreless through the first two periods against Spencer Manley before taking a 4-0 decision at the end of the third.

Following the first two matches, the Aggies led 6-0, but Navy proceeded to win the next four consecutive matches. No. 19 ranked John Cox of Navy used two three-point near falls to win by technical fall against Jesse Padilla in the 149 bracket. Adam Brochetti followed with a 3-2 decision over Dustin Noack (157) and UC Davis' Jon Clark (165) dropped his match to Matt Gulosh who used three takedowns to earn the 9-4 win.

In the 174-pound weight class UC Davis' Ken Cook had a two-point reversal late in the third period, but it was not enough to overcome Matt Stolpinski who came away with the 13-10 win. Navy's Chris Pouge followed with a 7-4 decision against Tyler Bernacchi in the 184-pound class bringing Navy's overall lead to 17-6.



Eliot Kelly and Andrew Adams each had three reversals in their match-up at the 197-pound weight class, but Kelly used two near falls to earn the 17-9 major decision. In the heavyweight division, Aggie Broc Maffia faced No. 9 ranked Tanner Garrett. Garrett won by fall with 48 seconds remaining in the third period to bring the Navy lead to 23-10.

In the final match of the day, Marcos Orozco (125) defeated Caleb Levee in a 6-1 decision to bring the final score to 23-13 in favor of Navy.

The Aggies will return to action against Cal State Fullerton on Friday at Fullerton, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
